Order Sons of Italy in America Scholarship Charitable & Educational Trust**
A maximum of twenty, one thousand dollar
($1,000), scholarships shall be awarded annually
by the Charitable and Educational Trust of the
Grand Lodge of Massachusetts, Order Sons and
Daughters of Italy in America. Additional
scholarships of varying amounts provided by
donors are awarded under the same guidelines
and/or guidelines established by the donor.
2. The Scholarship Commission shall recommend
to the State Council at least twenty principals and
six alternates. One principal award each shall be
made to a student majoring in the following
subjects: art, music, and Italian. One principal
award shall be granted to a properly qualified
student planning to pursue their education in a
recognized and accredited vocational or technical
school, which may be a two-year degree or
certificate granting institution. A maximum of four
scholarship awards shall be granted to properly
qualified students who are residents of a state
within the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of
Massachusetts, regardless of affiliation with the
Grand Lodge of Massachusetts.
3. Any money donated by filial lodges, other
organizations, or individuals, to the Charitable
and Educational Trust of the Grand Lodge of
Massachusetts, for the purpose of scholarships,
shall be awarded to properly qualified applicants
through the recommendation of the Scholarship
Commission to the State Council.
4. Except for those scholarships to be awarded to
properly qualified students regardless of
affiliation with the Grand Lodge of
Massachusetts, applicants must be:
(a) Current members in good standing of the
Junior Division or of the Grand Lodge of
Massachusetts for at least two years at the
time of application or
(b) Children or Grandchildren of current
members in good standing of the Grand
Lodge of Massachusetts for at least two years
at the time of application.
i. This provision includes deceased members
who were in good standing at the time of their
passing, who were members of the Grand
Lodge for at least two years, and whose
death was between 2021 and 2026.
5. If all twenty scholarships are not awarded
because of an insufficient number of properly
qualified candidates, the value of the unawarded
scholarships shall remain in the Charitable and
Educational Trust of the Grand Lodge of
Massachusetts, Order Sons and Daughters of
Italy in America.
6. Each scholarship award shall be made payable
in full directly to the recipient at the beginning of
the first semester of the first year upon receipt of
confirmation of enrollment as a full-time student
on College/University letterhead and a copy of
the first semester tuition bill.
7. Scholarship awards are limited to members of the
Senior Class of any secondary school and shall
be awarded on the following basis:
(a) Scholastic Ability
(b) Character
(c) Activities
8. Scholarship consideration shall be given only to
applicants planning to attend four-year degree
granting institutions (with the exception of a two-
year vocational and/or technical institution)
approved by the Scholarship Commission and
accredited by the State Board of Education of the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts or
corresponding agencies of other states.
9. Should the applicant decide to enter a college
other than the one for which the scholarship has
been granted, they must submit its name to the
Scholarship Commission for approval no later
than September 1, 2025.
10. Applications must be postmarked no later than
JANUARY 31, 2026 and mailed to:

11. If the scholarship awards cannot be used within
the immediate scholastic year due to unforeseen
circumstances, the Scholarship Commission may
make other recommendations. No award shall be
made if, in the judgment of the Scholarship
Commission, no applicant is properly qualified.
SCHOLARSHIP CHECKLIST
A. Be sure you have read the rules carefully. Answer each question on the application to the best of your ability.

B. All applications become the property of the Charitable and Educational Trust of the Grand Lodge of
Massachusetts, Order Sons and Daughters of Italy in America, and cannot be returned.
C. A complete application must contain the following five (5) items:
1. The ‘Application for Scholarship Award’ form filled out completely and signed by the applicant.
2. A signed letter of recommendation from your high school principal, school counselor, or teacher.
This letter must be signed and on school letterhead.
3. A letter from the applicant that addresses the following topic: How do you celebrate your heritage,
and why is it important to recognize, preserve, and celebrate individual or family heritage?
4. A resume detailing extracurricular involvement, leadership positions, community service,
employment, and any awards/accolades received, including dates of involvement.
5. An official transcript of grades dated and signed and/or certified by the appropriate high school
official. Transcripts must include all grades as of, and be dated on or after, December 1, 2025.
OPTIONAL:
Official SAT and/or ACT scores, printed directly from the College Board website or on the applicant’s
official high school transcript. (NO SELF-REPORTED SCORES WILL BE ACCEPTED.)
D. Your application will be disqualified if all five (5) items listed above are not received in one envelope,
postmarked no later than JANUARY 31, 2026. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE.
E. Recipients only will be notified by email by March 31, 2026.
Please note: The scholarship must be used in the academic year for which it has been awarded, or be forfeited.
