The Course Selection Process for students in grades 9-11 is underway. Here is an overview of our Course Selection Process. All month, teachers are making recommendations for students for next year's classes. That part of the process ends on February 27.

Recommendation Overrides

It is important to note that students can only select the core courses (English, Math, Social Studies, and Science) for which they are recommended. If a student disagrees with a recommendation, the first step is for the student to demonstrate he or she is an empowered learner and an effective communicator and speak with the teacher. Oftentimes, the teacher will change the recommendation when they learn of a student’s passion.

After that conversation, if there is still disagreement, the student should still select the course for which they are recommended and then fill out a Level Override Form (located in Guidance). Content supervisors and I review these forms to determine whether a teacher’s recommendation can or should be overridden. The deadline to submit these override forms is Friday, April 10.

Program of Studies Night-2/26

he next step in the process involves parents. All parents of students in grades 8-11 are invited to join us for our annual Program of Studies Night. This important informational night will provide a general overview of the Course Selection Process to our parents so that they can hear exactly what we told their children at this week's Titan Time assemblies. Parents will also learn about our graduation requirements and course offerings (focusing on new courses offered next year) and hear about our Pathways Program. Then, we will run smaller breakout meetings by department so that parents can visit with our content supervisors and ask any specific questions that they may have.

Course Selection Seminars

After that, our students start selecting courses in small group Guidance Seminars based on the schedule below:

• March 3-6 - Junior course selections

• March 10-13 - Sophomore course selections

• March 17-20 - Freshman course selections

It is important to note that while students will initially select courses in seminars with their counselors, the portal to submit those selections does not close until the Friday following their seminar. For example, the portal for juniors to select their classes closes at 2:20 p.m. on Friday, March 13, the Friday following the junior seminars. We do this so that students have plenty of time to discuss their course selections with their families at home. We encourage all parents and caregivers to take this time to review their child's selections and discuss the important balance between creating a schedule that is challenging and one that is also geared toward success.

Schedule Build

Once all of our course selections have been made and override decisions have been considered. We build our master schedule for next year, with the goal of issuing a class list for the 2026-27 school year to all of our students on Tuesday, June 10.
